SpaceX Holds Record $75Billion Share Sale
SpaceX, the rocket company owned by Elon Musk, has sold its shares to the public for the first time. This is called an initial public offering, or IPO. The price was $135per share, and the company raised $75billion. This is the biggest stock-market sale ever. SpaceX will start trading on Friday on the Nasdaq, a US stock market. The sale values the company at about $1.77trillion. The old record was much smaller: the oil company Saudi Aramco raised $29.4billion in 2019.
SpaceX builds rockets and runs Starlink, a network of satellites that gives internet from space. Even though people can now buy its shares, Musk will keep most of the control. He holds more than 84% of the voting power. Some experts think the price is too high. The research group Morningstar says each share is worth only $63. A US senator, Elizabeth Warren, asked the government to delay the sale.
Many people still wanted to buy. Investors asked for three to four times more shares than were available. But only about 20% of shares were kept for ordinary people, so most will not get any. SpaceX lost $4.9billion in 2025, but people are still excited. Experts say other technology companies may sell their shares later this year too.
