Government Sues Amazon Over Ad Prices

The US government is taking Amazon to court. On Monday, the FTC (a US government group) started a case. Lawyers from 22 states joined it. They say Amazon made businesses pay too much for adverts. About 1.2 million companies paid extra. The total was more than $20billion.

Companies pay Amazon to show their adverts. They bid against each other for the best places. The winner should pay only a little more than the next company. But the case says Amazon added its own secret bids. This pushed the prices up. Amazon says this is not true.

The FTC says shoppers paid more in shops too. Amazon does not agree, but the states want the court to stop Amazon. They also want Amazon to pay the money back. Amazon's share price fell on Monday.
