US Regulators Sue Amazon Over Hidden Ad Charges

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the main American consumer-protection regulator, joined the attorneys general of 22 states on Monday in suing Amazon, accusing the online retailer of secretly inflating the prices that businesses pay to advertise on its website. The 181-page complaint, filed in federal court in Seattle, alleges that Amazon "secretly and systematically overcharged" roughly 1.2 million advertising customers, among them more than 500,000 small and medium-sized businesses.
