Trump Taxes Canadian Cars and Steel
President Donald Trump has put a new tax on goods from Canada. The tax is 50 percent. It covers cars, trucks, car parts and steel. It will start on 1 January 2027. Trade talks between the two countries broke down last week.
Canada's leader, Mark Carney, left the talks on Friday. He says the United States changed its offer at the last minute. He calls the offer unfair. Canada will put its own taxes on American goods from 8 September.
A car built in Canada and sold in the United States will cost more. The company that brings the car in pays the tax. Most of the time, the buyer pays in the end. Canada will also tax American steel, milk products and machines. One study looked at Trump's taxes on goods from all countries. American families will pay about $1,100more each year.
