Anthropic is an AI company. AI means artificial intelligence. Anthropic makes a chatbot called Claude. On Monday, it sent important papers to US officials. It wants to sell its shares to the public for the first time. Reports say the sale may happen in November. All its shares together could cost between $1.5 trillion and $2 trillion.
Anthropic started only five years ago. Its founders worked at OpenAI before. They left because they were worried about AI safety. Now Anthropic is OpenAI's biggest rival. This year, it made more than $16 billion in six months. But it lost about $81 billion in that time.
Anthropic also says that very strong AI could be dangerous for people. Some people worry that shares in AI companies may cost too much. OpenAI also wants to sell shares. But it will not sell them this year because people are worried about safety.
