Anthropic Files to Sell Shares on Stock Market

Anthropic started only five years ago. Its founders, led by Dario Amodei, left OpenAI because they were worried that it was not making AI safely. Now Anthropic is OpenAI's biggest rival. In the first half of this year, it earned more than $16 billion. But it also lost about $81 billion. Its papers also warn that very powerful AI could be a serious danger to humanity.

One expert, Jim Angel, warned that the AI industry may be in a "bubble". The seven people who started Anthropic could each become worth up to $29 billion, the New York Post said. Meanwhile, OpenAI has delayed its own plans and will not sell shares this year because of worries about AI safety.
