This year, US political groups spent more than $45million on election ads. These ads talk about data centres, the big buildings full of computers. Data centres run AI. AI means artificial intelligence. Both big parties paid for the ads, but they said the same thing.
In June, a study found that 77% of Americans worry about their electricity bills. They think data centres make electricity more expensive. Data centres also use a lot of water. And they do not give many jobs to the town. One data centre can work with only 50 people.
But data centres can also help a town. Quincy is a small farm town in Washington state with 8,100 people. Microsoft built data centres there because the land was cheap. The river also makes a lot of power. The tax money helped pay for a new school and a hospital.
