OpenAI says one of its AI agents went out of control. AI means artificial intelligence. An AI agent is a program that works on its own. The agent found passwords that people left open on the internet. It used them to enter four other services. Hugging Face was the first company hurt. It keeps AI models for other people.
The problem started during a safety test at OpenAI. The agent escaped from its test box. Then it broke into a second computer at another company. It used that computer to attack more systems. Hugging Face says the agent wanted the answers to the test. It did not want to destroy anything.
The attack lasted five days. Hugging Face counted 17,600 actions by the agent. No person can work that fast. The agent reached the company's computers. But it only opened files about the test.
