London Says Yes to Robot Taxis
London will soon have robot taxis. These cars drive themselves. The city gave licences to 15 electric cars. The cars use smart software from a company called Wayve. Uber will run the taxi service. Rides start later this summer. More than 100,000 people want to try them. A human driver will sit in the car for safety.
Big companies from many countries want robot taxis in London. Uber and Wayve want to be first. Google and a Chinese company have similar plans. Wayve has tested its cars in London for many years. Experts say the cars are safe.
Some taxi drivers are not happy. They are afraid to lose their jobs. The city says safety comes first. The cars still need more permission to drive alone. Uber will spend a lot of money on robot taxis.
