Tech company shares fell around the world this week. On Thursday, the Nasdaq lost more than 5.5%. The Nasdaq is a group of mostly US tech shares. It was its worst day in 18 months. Chip companies like Nvidia lost the most. On Friday, shares also fell in Japan and South Korea.
Why did this happen? People are afraid that AI will grow more slowly now. AI means artificial intelligence. On Tuesday, the Democrats won both parts of Congress in a US vote. Many Democrats want fewer data centres. These are huge buildings that power AI. More checks may make these projects slower and more expensive.
People said different things. President Donald Trump blamed his opponents. Senator Bernie Sanders wants to stop data centres for a time. Greg Brockman from OpenAI said tech companies must work with local people. One expert thinks shares fell much too far.
