Iran War Stops Ships, Raises Prices
The war between the United States and Iran began on February 28. It has closed the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow sea route. About 20% of world oil moves through it. In Iran, food prices have gone up fast. Cooking oil costs 308% more. Chicken costs 190% more. Afghanistan can not get goods through Iran's port now.
The Strait of Hormuz is only 21 miles wide. It joins the Persian Gulf to the Arabian Sea. Most oil for Asia and Europe goes through here. Iran's food prices are now 140% to 200% higher. The Iranian president set up a team to stop unfair prices.
Afghanistan is hurt the most. Food for hungry mothers and children ran out in April. Transport costs are three times higher now. The United States asks Europe to help reopen the route. The Czech foreign minister offered to help watch the area.
