Low Danube Shuts Hungary's Power Plant
Hungary will close its only nuclear power plant. The River Danube is very low. It is the lowest level for 30 years. The plant uses river water to cool its machines. Now the water is too low to reach. Romania has the same problem. It stopped one of its two machines too.
There was very little rain this spring. Then Europe had many very hot weeks. A scientist in Serbia says the river is very low. It has not been this low for about 50 years. He thinks the water will stay low until September.
Hungary's leader says the country may not have enough electricity. He asked people to use less power in the evening. Boats can not move on the river in Bulgaria. Police took 186 people off a boat there. The low water also showed an old ship from a war.
