Human Guides Fly Fifteen Rare Ibises to Spain

Fifteen northern bald ibises have joined a growing flock in northern Spain after human guides helped them along the route from Austria in a small aircraft. They reached Alt Empordà, in Catalonia, where biologist Bernat Garrigós runs the project. The species, also called the Waldrapp, or Geronticus eremita, had been extinct in Europe for 300 years. Foster parents from the Waldrapp team guide the birds' path in an ultralight.
