Jensen Huang is the boss of Nvidia, a company that makes computer chips. In an interview with CBS News (a US TV news company) , he said that artificial intelligence (AI) will not destroy humans in the next few years. He said there is a 0% chance that the world will end by 2030. He called the warnings doomsday narratives, meaning stories about the end of the world. Scaring people is unnecessary. It is irresponsible, he said.
Huang was answering Jacob Coxon, who used to work at the AI company Anthropic. This month, Coxon said on social media that AI builders believe it could kill everyone by the end of the decade. His words started a debate. Some AI leaders, like Sam Altman of OpenAI, now want AI to develop more slowly. But Huang says these ideas are not based on science and that today's laws are enough to deal with dangerous AI. Nvidia's chips power many AI models, and it is the world's most valuable company.
President Donald Trump has a similar view. He says fears about AI are not real. But many people are still worried. In one survey, 52% of adults said they were more worried than excited about AI. On 24 September, Huang will go to a dinner at the White House for China's leader, Xi Jinping.
