US Returns Billions in Tariff Money
The US government has given back more than $100billion to companies. The companies paid special taxes on goods from other countries. These taxes are called tariffs. Earlier this year, a court said the tariffs were not legal. Big companies like Amazon, Apple and Nike got between $600million and $2billion.
Only the company that paid the tax can ask for the money. Shoppers can not ask for it. Companies do not have to give the money to their customers. But three big delivery firms have promised to do it.
A study says families paid about $1,000more. Shops did not show the tax on the price. So lawyers say customers can not get their money back. Some customers have taken big shops to court.
