Hackers Steal $6.3 Billion From Binance
Hackers have stolen $6.3 billion from Binance, the world's biggest cryptocurrency exchange. Experts say it may be the largest theft in history. It is more than four times bigger than the last record, a $1.5 billion hack of another exchange, Bybit, in 2025. Binance first said the attack started with one engineer's laptop. Later, it found more weak points in its systems. The company says it has now blocked about $3 billion, around half of the stolen money.
Several blockchain companies, which study how crypto money moves, have connected the attack to North Korea. Many people suspect a hacking group called TraderTraitor. The United States government links this group to North Korea, and it was also blamed for the Bybit theft. Experts say North Korea uses cybercrime to get money, but the country has always said it does not do this.
Binance says customers' money is safe. It has kept more than $6 billion of its own money to pay for all losses. The FBI (the Federal Bureau of Investigation) is helping to follow the stolen money. But the news worried investors, and the price of Bitcoin fell 5% on Friday. Experts warned that Binance's promise is not a legal guarantee. In countries like the US and the UK, governments protect bank savings, but not crypto.
