US Refunds $100 Billion in Tariffs to Companies

The United States government has repaid more than $100 billion to companies that paid emergency import taxes later declared unlawful, according to a court filing this month. The refunds follow a Supreme Court decision earlier this year striking down tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). American importers had paid roughly $160 billion under those measures. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) opened an online claims portal on 20 April, and several large corporations applied that day.
