On Thursday, Starbucks said it would close 250 coffee shops in North America. It is the second time its boss, Brian Niccol, has closed many shops. The company says these shops do not make enough money. Some also can not give customers a good experience.
Last year, Starbucks closed 627 stores in North America and Europe. It also cut hundreds of jobs. Now the company is making many shops cozier and more comfortable. Workers at more than 700 US stores voted to join a union. A union is a group that helps workers. Starbucks does not support this.
Starbucks says workers can move to other stores if possible. Others will get money when they leave. In Burbank, near Los Angeles, a popular Starbucks closed on Saturday after nearly 30 years. People loved its big windows and natural light. But Starbucks has not said if it is one of the 250.
