SpaceX Shares Drop After Debt Plan
Shares in SpaceX, the rocket company led by Elon Musk, fell 16% on Monday. It was the third day in a row that the stock went down. The fall came after an official document showed the firm's plan to sell bonds a way of borrowing money to raise about $20billion. By the end of the day, the company was worth about $2.03trillion. The money would help pay for costly AI (artificial intelligence) work and future plans in space.
The fall came just weeks after a strong start on the stock market. On 12 June, SpaceX first sold its shares to the public and raised nearly $86billion, the largest amount ever. For a short time, this made Musk the world's first trillionaire. But the company is spending fast. It lost almost $5billion last year. In the first quarter, it spent $10.1billion, with AI taking $7.7billion. Starlink, its satellite-internet business, was its only part that made a profit in 2025.
If the sale happens, SpaceX would join other big tech firms like Alphabet, Amazon and Nvidia that borrow money for AI. Some experts worry about all this borrowing. They say buyers trust Musk, Starlink and future industries more than the company's results today, and warn that hopes have become very high.
