Island Gets First Baby Since 1992

A baby is born on a small Scottish island called North Ronaldsay. He is the first baby born there in 34 years. His name is Duncan. Only 59 people live on the island.

Duncan's parents live in Costa Rica. They visited the island in the summer. His mother, Alice, wanted to have the baby there. Her family has a long history on the island. The island is far away and hard to reach. Two midwives came by helicopter to help. Midwives help women have babies.

The family raised a flag to share the good news. People on the island did this long ago. They gave everyone on the island a bottle of whisky. Then all the islanders had a drink together. The family goes back to Costa Rica in November. But Duncan will visit the island every year.
