King Charles Dances, Sips Rum on Caribbean Tour

King Charles III has danced in the Bahamas and tasted a specially blended rum in Guyana during the first days of his Caribbean tour. During a two-day visit to the Bahamas, which Buckingham Palace described as a "diplomatic success", the 77-year-old monarch joined a Junkanoo parade, a lively celebration of island life, and met young boxers, environmentalists and politicians. At the Bahamas Boxing Academy, he laughed when he was handed a T-shirt showing a muscular version of himself wearing boxing gloves and a crown.

The visit celebrates 60 years of friendship between the United Kingdom (UK) and Guyana. Guyana's economy is growing faster than any other country's because oil was found there in 2015. Most of the country is covered by rainforest, a thick, wet forest, and the King has worked to protect it. But there is some tension. Leaders in the region want Britain to pay compensation, or money to make up for harm, for its part in the slave trade. President Ali is one of them, but he does not plan to discuss it in public on this visit.

Music is also part of the trip. Musicians from Scotland played with local drummers at the party. After Guyana, the King will go to Antigua and Barbuda. There, he will open a big meeting of Commonwealth leaders.
