Zuckerberg Urges Sharing Superintelligent AI With Everyone

Zuckerberg framed wide distribution as both an economic opportunity and a safeguard. "If the power of superintelligence is held by a small number of individuals, businesses, governments, or AI itself, then that will naturally lead to outcomes that are less favorable for everyone else," he wrote, adding that there is "no such thing as a singular benevolent superintelligence." He positioned Meta against rival laboratories that, he argued, build mainly for companies and governments, and promised free or low-cost personal AI assistants with a "fully private mode" that would stop Meta and other providers from seeing users' information. He also disputed the widespread expectation that AI will eliminate employment, predicting instead that companies will shrink while growing far more numerous.

Alongside the essay, Meta said it would resume publishing open-source models, releasing the weights of Muse Glimmer, a 30-billion-parameter model small enough to run on a laptop, with an open version of its Muse Spark 1.2 system promised within weeks. Zuckerberg also announced a $1 billion "Future is for Everyone Fund" for communities that host Meta's data centres, a response to mounting local opposition over the environmental and economic effects of such sites. He pledged to hold down electricity prices, restore local water supplies and train workers, and cited Richland Parish, Louisiana, where teachers received $50,000 bonuses funded by tax revenue from a Meta facility. The company expects to spend much of its $145 billion capital budget for 2026 on data centres.
