Trump Helps Ships in Hormuz
On May 3, U.S. President Donald Trump announced 'Project Freedom.' This plan will help ships leave the Strait of Hormuz. The strait is a narrow sea between Iran and Oman. About one-fifth of the world's oil moves through it. Trump said the U.S. will guide ships out starting Monday. The U.S. military will use warships, planes, and 15,000 soldiers.
The crisis began on February 28, 2026. The U.S. and Israel attacked Iran on that day. Iran then closed the strait to most foreign ships. More than 850 ships and 20,000 sailors are stuck there. Traffic through the strait has fallen over 90 percent.
The crisis has made oil prices go up. U.S. gasoline prices reached $4.39a gallon. Trump said any attack on his plan will be answered. Iran said it will hit back if the U.S. attacks again. Trump will visit China on May 14.
