Halzen Wins Nobel for South Ice

Francis Halzen won the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics. The award is for IceCube, an observatory in the far-south ice that catches ghost particles from space. A Swedish science group named him in Stockholm on 6 October 2026. He was born in Belgium, is now a United States citizen, and at 82 works at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. That university runs IceCube at the South Pole.
