Microsoft says it will cut about 4,800 jobs. That is 2.1% of its workers. The biggest cuts are at Xbox. Xbox makes video games. About 1,600 Xbox jobs are gone now. Another 1,600 jobs will go by 2027. The company will also sell five game studios.
Asha Sharma is the new head of Xbox. She says the business is not healthy. It makes less money than other game companies. In 2024, Microsoft bought a big game maker for $68.7billion. Since then, Xbox has cut jobs many times. Microsoft now spends a lot of money on new computer technology. But it says this technology is not taking the jobs.
Many technology companies are cutting jobs this year. Some studios are still happy. Two will work on their own again. Two others found new owners. Microsoft shares fell a little. Sharma promises to make Xbox grow by 2027.
