Hackers Make French Shop Fridges Hot
Hackers got into the computers of hundreds of supermarkets in France on Sunday night. They took control of the fridges and freezers. Some machines got as hot as 50C. Fresh and frozen food went bad. There were even some small fires. About 400 stores from big companies like Carrefour and Intermarché had problems.
Shops control their fridges with computer software from a company called Danfoss. The software works over the internet. The hackers found a weak point in it. Danfoss says the machines were old. Their software was not up to date. Officials have not said who did it.
The stores had to throw away a lot of food. The boss of Intermarché says shops in France could lose many millions of euros. Shops in other European countries may also have problems. French officials are now investigating what happened.
