Ear Acupuncture Fails in New Study
Researchers in Brazil tested acupuncture for migraine pain. Acupuncture uses very thin needles on the body. They studied 68 women with bad migraines. Half got needles in the outer ear. The other half got a fake treatment. Both groups had treatment once a week for eight weeks. Pain went down in both groups. But the real treatment was not better than the fake one.
A migraine is much worse than a normal headache. The pain is often on one side of the head. People feel sick. Light and noise become painful. An attack can last up to three days. Women get migraines at least twice as often as men.
Migraine is one of the ten most disabling illnesses in the world. New drugs help many people now. But the drugs are expensive and hard to get. Scientists want to test the ear treatment on more people.
