Djokovic Wins China Open After De Minaur Retires

Novak Djokovic won a seventh China Open title in Beijing this week after Alex de Minaur retired injured from the final. The 39-year-old Serb led 7-6 (7-3), 0-1 when the Australian, 12 years younger, stopped with an apparent problem in his left thigh. After a first set that lasted 68 minutes, both players took a medical timeout. De Minaur came back with strapping on that thigh, won the first game of the second set, and then shook hands. He apologised to the fans and said he had not wanted the match to finish that way.
