Divers have filmed a great white shark under the sea near Sicily. People think it is the first video like this in the Mediterranean Sea. The divers found the shark in May. They were taking old fishing nets out of the water. The shark came very close to them. Then it swam away.
Great white sharks are now very rare in the Mediterranean Sea. Scientists say too much fishing is the big reason. The shark in the video may be an adult male. One diver said seeing it was very lucky. He said it is harder than winning the lottery.
The divers want governments to protect the sea. They were cleaning up lost fishing nets when they saw the shark. These nets are called ghost nets. They trap and kill many sea animals. People should not be afraid, because the shark was far from land.
