Venus Williams, aged 46, has been awarded a wildcard for the singles main draw of this year's US Open, tournament organisers announced on Tuesday. The invitation makes her the oldest singles entrant at the event since Renee Richards competed at 47 in 1981, according to the International Tennis Federation (ITF). It will be Williams's 26th appearance at the tournament in New York, where she first played 29 years ago and won back-to-back titles in 2000 and 2001.
