Study Finds Mercury Shrank 30% More Than Thought

Mercury, the smallest planet in our solar system, may have shrunk considerably more than scientists previously believed, according to new research published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters. A team led by planetary scientist Gaku Nishiyama of the German Aerospace Center's Institute of Space Research, who is also affiliated with Hokkaido University in Japan, estimates that the planet's total contraction is roughly 30% greater than earlier calculations suggested.
