NASA (the US space team) will send a new telescope into space. Its name is the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope. It cost $4.3billion. A rocket will carry it from Florida on 30 August. The telescope is named after a famous woman scientist. She was the first chief astronomer at NASA.
The telescope has a strange story. About fifteen years ago, a spy agency gave NASA a satellite. Nobody was using it. Engineers turned it to look up at the stars. Roman sees as well as the Hubble telescope. But it can watch a much wider part of the sky.
Scientists want to learn about dark energy. Dark energy pushes the universe apart. Roman will map many galaxies. A galaxy is a big group of stars. The mission will last five years. Everyone will be able to use the data.
