Met Office Warns of Record-Strength El Niño

The El Niño now forming in the Pacific Ocean is likely to be the strongest in living memory, Britain's Met Office has warned. Scientists announce an El Niño when sea surface temperatures in a key part of the Pacific rise 0.5C above average. Measurements are already well above 2C, and the Met Office believes the figure could pass 3C at the event's peak.
