Bald Eaglets Hatch in Chicago After 100 Years

Two bald eagle hatchlings have emerged from a nest along the Calumet River on Chicago's Southeast Side, marking what officials believe is the first successful wild breeding of the species in the city in more than a century. The Chicago Park District announced the discovery last week after bird-watchers observed nesting activity in Park 597 beginning in February. The first eaglet was sighted on April 28, the second confirmed on May 7. Park district spokesperson Irene Tostado said the chicks appear to be two to three weeks old.
