Arsenal Win English League After 22 Years
Arsenal won the Premier League title on Sunday. The team beat Crystal Palace 2-1 in London. It was their first English league championship in 22 years. Captain Martin Ødegaard lifted the trophy in front of about 3,000 Arsenal fans. Manager Mikel Arteta was thrown into the air to celebrate.
Arsenal had already won the title earlier in the week. They beat Burnley 1-0 on Monday. Then their rival Manchester City drew 2-2 with Bournemouth on Tuesday. This gave Arsenal an unbeatable lead. In Sunday's match, Gabriel Jesus scored first, in the 42nd minute. The pass came from 16-year-old Max Dowman. Dowman is now the youngest player ever to start a Premier League game. Noni Madueke scored the second goal in the second half.
Crystal Palace scored once near the end through Jean-Philippe Mateta. Yéremy Pino seemed to score an equaliser a goal that ties the score in injury time. But the goal was not allowed because of offside, when a player stands too close to the goal. Now Arsenal must play another big game. On Saturday they will face Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in Budapest in the Champions League final. Arteta said his players must use the same energy for that game.
