Wildfire Near Paris Empties 900 Homes, Arson Suspected

A wildfire of what French officials called "exceptional scale" tore through the Fontainebleau forest about 60 kilometres south-east of Paris, burning roughly 800 hectares (2,000 acres) and forcing about 900 homes to be evacuated. The blaze broke out late on Sunday afternoon and had still not been contained by Monday, when Pierre Ory, the prefect of the Seine-et-Marne department, said it "continued to progress moderately".
