The NFL (the American football league) has a health problem. A new study looked at players who died between 2016 and 2021. At least one in four of them had a brain disease. The disease is called CTE, and it comes from many hits to the head.
Scientists studied 878 players, and 235 of them gave their brains to science. Doctors found the disease in 215 of these brains. But doctors can only find the disease after a person dies. So the real number for all players is not clear. Many sick players also had memory problems.
The NFL says it works to make the game safer. The players' union says the news is a serious reminder. Doctors worry about young players, so they say children should not play hard football. Small hits can also hurt a young brain.
