The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has warned that the Ebola outbreak in central Africa could swell to 20,000 cases or more if infected patients are not rapidly isolated. In a modelling report released on Friday, the agency outlined scenarios ranging from 10,000 to upwards of 20,000 infections — a trajectory that could rival the catastrophic 2014–2016 West Africa epidemic, which killed more than 11,000 people across over 28,000 confirmed cases.
