Astronomers have confirmed an atmosphere around a rocky planet orbiting inside the habitable zone of another star, the first time such a detection has been verified by observation. The planet, LHS 1140b, circles a small red dwarf in the constellation of Cetus; the BBC places it 48 light years from Earth, while the Guardian reports 49.
